I want some career advice...? |
I am currently working as a high school teacher. I have qualifications in Education and Information Technology. I have previously worked in tutoring, sales, and customer service. I would love to do something full time with kids that isn't teaching. I enjoy working with them on a one on one basis, like a counselling or mentor role, but less formal. I am studying a life coaching course, and would love to work in film or TV production or photography. I prefer to work alone rather than as part of a team. I also enjoy working at my pace. I would love to manage myself in something. Any ideas? Maybe produce a kids television show or work for an educational tv station, using some of your skills from teaching outside of the instructional role. I suggest volunteering or interning in different kinds of settings that interest you, counseling, film, photography and that can help you decide w hat you want to do. If you want to do counseling consider a degree program focusing on children's issues. It sounds like you need to start your own business in something -is it possible to try and tap into kids working at a gifted level in IT - either high school or college and act as a project mentor for them? Another option would be to take appropriate students from school setting and as a project have them solve IT issues within a commercial company and have you as project mentor - I know we have a program in Aus that involves having highschool kids solve specific problems within a 2 week placement within a commerical company. Hope I helped! Roux You have got two good suggestions already but if you need some more food for thoughts and some fun while doing it, just take a career aptitude test like this http://gsx1.com/free-aptitude-test.html... it's free and you will be given results at the end, sometimes even jobs, and there's a couple more tests here too http://www.job--listings.info/ hope it helped, take care and good luck! |
