Is it time to switch to a Apple iMac ?

Hi all,

I am doing a Media course which incudes things like photography... in the college we are using Apple iMac's with software for example 'Photoshop' and MS Office for the creative side of things I think that an iMac may be better than my PC (especially since the college uses iMacs) it's early days so I don't know yet but wil I have compatibility problems if I continue to use a PC and try to use work that I created on a Mac ?

Any advice ?

thanks !

Both PC's and Macs run Office and PhotoShop. If you are on a Mac then you will probably need more RAM than for a PC running PhotoShop.
All those programs are compatible with a PC. If you switch to an imac you will need to buy the mac version of those programs, about $300 for MS Office and $550 for Photoshop CS2. That on top of the price of the imac. If you have a PC with those programs with it stick to it, otherwise do your homework at the computer lab or library.
Hi, no u don't need an iMac yet. All ur work is compatible with a pc on Microsoft Windows or on Linux. If u like the security Mac OS X offers then I suggest that u start using Linux. I like Linux a lot more than Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X. Besides u will always need Microsoft Windows if u like playing games once in a while.
Good Luck!
You should switch to Mac because the colour is a hundred times better. It's also much easier and more intuitive to organise and access your files on the Mac. A Mac can open image files from a CD created in windows if they are in .JPG format and not in folders. I don't think it works the other way around, but you can email them between computers as long as they're .JPG files. However if you want to be taken seriously as a proffessional in anything like digital photograpy that involves colour and computers, your going to need to get a Mac.
