I need a new CPU. Any suggestions? |
I need a new CPU. I need one that has a cd burner and has enough memory to support Photography programs and of course internet and Windows programs. Does anyone have any suggestions? The CPU is the central processor, has nothing to do with the CD burner, and is independent of the memory. Given your level of understanding, I would suggest that you probably want something that you can find and get serviced locally. Check out the stores in your area that sell computers. You should probably stick with a brand name and you will probably recognize all the brand names (except for Lenovo which now manufactures the PCs that used to be IBM). I would recommend a machine with Windows XP Home or Media Center installed. I would not recommend Windows Vista if you can avoid it. With XP I would recommend getting at least 1gb of memory. If you have to get Vista I would up that by 50 to 100%. I would guess that any machine that is in a store's stock with 1gb of memory will have a fast enough processor for you but I would try and find one which has an Intel Pentium, Intel Core 2, or AMD Athlon. You should be able to find something in the $500 - $750 range. |
