"So,kid what are your plans after High school"...? |
So,this is a very common question,eh. I use to just reply with a .."umm.. not sure".But,now I believe I have a certain idea of what it is that i will like to do. Your job is to suggest me any changes or advice :) | I'm currently a Junior in High school. ( 16 years old) I want to pursue in the Arts/Entertainment Industry. I would like to work with Computers and along with that something related to Arts. I want to do Web Design and Freelance Photographer.Aside from that I will like to model, but this is just as a "backup" or extra money.I'm more interested in Web/Graphic Designs and Photography. So,my plans are this.I'm currently study HTML and practicing my skills with web/graphic by senior year I'll work on my portfolio,I also plan on taking a Web Design course on my half year of Junior or right on my Senior year. I'm also currently taking a Photography 1 course,it's going well. So once i graduate..what do i do? O_o Go to college.. i can't parents have money crises..so where do i go Recognize that "web designer" is interpreted differently in different shops. In my shop, we distinguish visual designers from user interface engineers from software engineers. Visual designers create the graphical look of the pages. Software engineers create the underlying application that manages access to data and handles the whole HTTP request/response cycle. User interface engineers are responsible for creating styles (CSS), HTML, and JavaScript to make the pages work and look "right" (like the visual design) in all browsers. In my universe, you sound most like a visual designer. You seem to be most interested in making the user interface aesthetically pleasing without necessarily having to make it work. If that's the case, look around at: http://www.digital-web.com/articles/prin... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/graphic_des... http://www.careerschooldirectory.com/pag... There are plenty of places in the world to find work. NYC is not the center of the universe. Live in NY, if you want to live in NY - not because you think it's the only place that has jobs. I just happen to work with a guy who live in NY and telecommutes 100% to our shop which is WAY not NY...by several states. I worked my way through college and got grants by virtue of GPA. My wife got loans to pay her way and worked as well. Gettin' the sheepskin is a VERY GOOD THING. It doesn't even NEED to be in your preferred area of employment. Any degree at the college level will enhance your value to potential employers. The school link I gave is oriented to the work I think you're seeking, but it didn't have to be. I would like to be a computer programmer, Video game maker, or a photagrapher I have absolutely no idea. I don't know how the american education system works.. But can't you try get a scholorship?x |
