I've always loved time-lapse photography/videos, and I have some great ideas of my own. Right now I am in the market for a camcorder, and I do not own any video editing equipment yet. My question is - What is the easiest way to accomplish time-lapse? Do you need a special camera? Do you need special software? Both? Neither? Thanks for the help guys!
You don't need special software, that's for sure. Some expensive cameras have this feature built in. I have a Canon GL2 with this feature, but the camera costs over $2000. This neat feature is a "set it and forget" feature that allows you to set the camera on a tripod, pointed at your subject (like a blooming flower) and when you come back to the camera in 10 hours, you've got your time lapse video waiting for you.
But, you can do this with any camera, if you have the personal time to attend to the camera. What you do is set up the camera on a tripod and with a watch (stopwatch would be handy), film your subject for say, 5 seconds. Then, come back in 10 minutes and film again for 5 seconds. Repeat this cycle for as long as you need to get the video you want. Anyway, you get the idea. So if you have the time and patience to do this, then you don't need an expensive camera!! |
