Is there any legal precedent for celebs to demand royalties from paparazzi who make money off their pictures?

I was watching 'Young Rich and Out of Control' on VH1 and I heard them say that a single paparazzi photo of Paris Hilton literally walking to her car can fetch as much as $1,500! I asked myself if poor Paris (haha) has any right to this money. I mean, sure the photographer is applying his skills, time and using his equipment but all of that would be nothing without the subject of his photography. The celebrity has applied their considerable skill in acting, singing, dancing or making sex tapes and making themselves pretty to make people want to see photos of them so surely they have as much right to the money made off photographs of themselves as anybody else -- right? Does anybody know what the law says?

Mind you, this is all theoretical, if indeed the law does support this, administering it would be a nightmare.

Nope..you go out in public you are part of the scenery...

There was a case where girls sued girls gone wild and lost...the court found that they were in public...and had no privacy rights....when you are out you are fair game...especially when you are a public figure.

And adminstering such a law if created would be easy..just fine the papers that run the pictures...and allow the celebrity to sue...ofcourse there would be no more pictures of celebrities....besides without the paparazzi...semi celebities such as Paris Hilton and others would have no career...
there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Nope, they are public figures, they chose or at least pushed for the lifestyle they lead, therefore no royalties can be claimed by someone snapping there picture, comes with the territory.
No, I'm sure those celeb's lawyers would have been top of that long time ago if they're legally entitiled to royalties. Photographer is owner of the photo although it is the subject that give its value.
No, they are public figures, and open to being photographed sans a percentage.
