I want to start up photography but need some help with what equipment to get.?

I want to start up photography as a hobbie, and then maybe in the future look towards doing it as a career.
I don't know anything about what sort of camera equipment i will need. I have looked on websites, but it is all photography lingo to me.
Can someone tell me what equipment i will need to get, and anything that i should look for when buying it??
Also what the equipment actually does!??!
PLEASE, I NEED HELP!

It depends what type of camera and photography you want to do. You can get a compact digital camera or an SLR (an slr is like the old big cameras but is now digital, newspaper photographers have them)
If you want a compatct, you need to choose your megapixels, the higher the pixel the better the quality of picture. A 6 mega pixel is adequate for an A4 size print.
You need to decide if you are going to be doing close up work. If so, choose a camera that has a digital and optical zoom bigger than 3.
You might want to think about the type of battery in the camera. You can have the ones with disposable batteries or choose one that is lithium and you charge up.
An SLR is good if you want proffesional shots. Choose a Canon or Nikon.
You will need a memory card (usually Compact Flash) you may want a bigger lens to put on.
For an SLR you should get a filter. This stops scratching to the lens and helps take away sunlight. Source(s): Experience of working in a shop and Jessops.com
u need a camera..duh
Photography is a wonderful hobby. I wish I made it a career years ago.

The first piece of equipment you need is a camera. ;)

You'll need to decide if you want to get a film or digital camera; a compact camera or a Single Lens Reflex camera. The type of camera you have will determine some of the equipment you need.

Since you obviously are serious about photography , I recommend you get a camera with manual as well as automatic and semi-automatic controls, perhaps one with a hot shoe so you can use an external flash.

There are a variety of accessories: camera bags, tripods, memory cards (if you go digital). Interchangeable lenses (for a SLR) or lens adapters for converter lenses; filters; external and slave flashes, etc.

If you let us know what type of camera you have or plan to get, we can be more helpful.

Some of the information at my site may help answer a few of your questions more fully. It's geared to digital photography but many of the accessories and principles apply to film too.

my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping
digital cameras
digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions
Start with a Nikon or Canon SLR (fifteen years old or less) and a good medium zoom lens (24-85mm is a good one) and go from there.

Take a few classes at a community college and learn how to compose, expose, process and print your images.

Eventually you will discover what additional equipment you will want and need to go pro, but as you will discover, the area of photography you eventually enter will dictate the equipment you eventually get.

Good luck and have fun.
