Rate my Photography?

I use a Nikon d40x with 3 lenses: 18-55mm, 55-200mm, and a 105mm micro lens. I am in the process of attaining a press pass, and perhaps a job taking pictures of celebrities. Please rate my work, and perhaps tell of your favorite one. I also update them daily :)

I know how to use photoshop very well, but i dont use it in my photography.

Nice for a beginner using the kit lens. Some need more work, if you're experienced at Photoshop, why not use it? Your macro was your best overall, although I would delete the white rose. Go to nature websites to see good hummingbird images, Mark Chappell is a great bird photographer.

The lights are a mixed bag, some were pretty interesting, others just looked like mistakes. Too many that looked the same there, in fact, they all looked like they were made at the same time.

If you are hoping to attract clients by way of your website, you need to remove your weaker images, particularly the portrait on your home page. It is a pure snapshot, bad harsh flash lighting, red eye, and distracting elements in the background including a chopped off foot. Your other portraits were fine for myspace or something, perhaps that's type of look that young emo types like. Not sure the technique is there for shooting celebrities yet, but keep working on it. The year end edition of American Photo has some great work from various artists, Annie Leibovitz has a spread in the issue, as well as several other noted photographers.

You might consider a faster zoom lens, like the 17-55 f/2.8 for greater creative control. It is pricey, though. If you don't have the 50mm f/1.8, you should get it for low light work and on the crop frame sensor it makes a good portrait lens. At about $100 new, it is the best bang for the buck around. Keep at it and best wishes as you learn and your skill grows.

You should downlaod and use Paint.NET- its a free photo software. You could turn your pics into masterpieces with it

don't waist yourself on celebrities, if your talking paparazzi, it would be a waist of your talent...if you mean just taking photos (at there will...as in a photo shoot) then go for that, anyway pretty awesome photos, thumbs up. keep it up.

A few unique ideas and very industrious but generally lacking in technical skills.

composition and exposure issues (blown highlights) in many, and just not that interesting subjectwise. Not too bad on a few; not to be dsicouraging at all, though; you have keen interest, good gear, and good ideas. Study, learn, take lots of pictures. A great way is to collect postcards and analyze what they are doing right. I liked 'sprinkler', 'living in a small world', and a couple of the car shots.
