Can you change your job while in DEP (Navy)?

i leave feburary 19th as of now for nuke. i want to change that to photography. can i switch jobs?

Talk to the Classifier at the MEPS station. Like another said, those in the nuclear program are very highly sought after (because they are unbelieveably undermanned) and you'll probably be get a lot of people trying to persuade you to stay. But you have a MUCH better chance at changing your program while still in DEP than you would once you shipped out.

That said... I am sure you have your own reasons and I'm not one to judge one way or another, but make sure you think about every aspect of changing your job before you do it. Once you change it OUT of the nuclear program, your chances of getting it back are not good at all. And the money you get is phenomenal. Ask your classifier how much the reenlistment bonus is for nuclear program careerists. It'll knock your socks off. And the promotion opportunity in the nuclear community is better than anywhere else in the Navy. If you just DO YOUR JOB and not get into trouble, you'll be a Chief in 7-9 years.

I dont know but ask your recruiter or contactsman asap and see if there is an opening on that MOS. After joining boot camp see if any advicor/Co or simular has an opening for you but remenber its never a good idea to desert becaouse you dont like your MOS. If you do well I bealive there are also options to train in other MOS later on. Good luck and tx for serving. Johan

realistically: it will NOT Happen. Nuke is undermanned, MC is pretty well closed for the year.

you can ask, but the chances are about Nil, you could lose your ship date, you will definitely lose any Nuke related bonuses and your recruiter will be peeved at you.
