Possible move from FL to NYC..?

...in a year? (I'm 16 btw. NO SCHOOL. I stress that part.) I'm hoping to find a job within the next two months.
Would it be possible to save enough in a year?
I know taxes are high and all that but I want some ground ideas. I've looked at apartments in Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights and I've seen a few that (to me) seem a fair price like, $1,600, 1,100+ with roomie, $1,500, 2,200+ without.
Or would it be a better idea to move across the river in New Jersey until I get a steady job(s)?
I'm also planning on taking some classes in between work (continuing art, photography and graphic design).
I'm willing to take two jobs for a while to get going at least. And yes room mates too. (any good sites for searching for some?)
So here's everything all together:
For rent, water, tv, internet and cell what would be a few basic ideas of a price range on top of taxes?
Would it be better to move with a roomie or to NJ?

All suggestions are welcomed!

Thank you!

i would just do it and figure it all out as i go along. the worst thing that could happen (that's not a matter of life and death) is that it totally falls apart for you and you have to leave. but in the meantime you would have had the adventure of your life.

having roommates is probably what you need to do, but in any case if you are going to move all the way up from FL, why stop short in NJ? i'd sooner move to Astoria, Queens, than anywhere in NJ.

If you're not eighteen, there are labor laws in New York that would not allow you to work after a certain time at night (on a school night) and you wouldn't be able to work a full-time job.I'm not sure how it works if you're not in school, but you definitely have to file paper work in order to do a full time shift.

You will probably end up working in some sort of retail environment which at most will pay $12 if you don't have experience. Rent can be anywhere from $600-$1000+ per person. Cellphone prices depend on what minutes you want, I think the average plan my friends have costs around $60 a month. You also need to factor in transportation buying a monthly metrocard, HIGH costs of food and paying for all of the things you'll put in your apartment.

I don't think a year is enough, and I think you'll be in for a bit of a shock when you get here and realize how expensive it is to live here compared to Florida.

My sister was making around $45,000 a year and saved up for two years before moving to QUEENS in a $1000 apartment, and the first year or so she really had to save. You can't figure out how much money you'll have to "just have enough" you have to make sure you'll be secure.

I would say, since you are 16 save up for 5 years. First nobody in NY or NJ will rent to some one under 18.

Stay in Florida, take some classes down there and save. Moving to NY/NJ isn't like picking up and moving to Ga. or Fl..

Stay your butt back in Florida. You gonna be homeless in 2 weeks, if you plan to come up to NYC. you cant afford it and you are uneducated. You know what New York does with its trash dump it in Brooklyn and New Jersey.

when you get here contact me and I will try to help you out...I am from NJ about 20 minutes from NYC....Good Luck!!!
