Photographer Questions?

Where do you get your pictures developed?

Matte or glossy?

Do you do any jobs with photography? (Like weddings, etc...)

How old were you when you started?

Any other helpful things?

well, you have lots of great questions! it depends on what you want to do with your art.

Photography ranges from: snapshots (for fun), Fine Art, glamour, fashion, sports, editorial, wedding, events.
I think the most money is in Wedding Photography. But i also think its the most stressful... no matter what your photography try selling it on istockphoto...

if you want to learn more about cameras and photoshop go to an online training company like xTrain, there are industry leaders, magazine editors, cool effects photographers, and plenty of - how to shoot, edit and make money off your work classes.

I get my film developed at the camera store, custom lab. I actually prefer matte. I have done pet portraits and school pictures. I have been doing photography off and on since I was a pup. Main thing is to have fun and enjoy what you are doing.

I was 14 when I started taking pictures, and used Tesco or Bonusptint to develop them.
With digital cameras you can go on line to Bonusprint and get them printed and sent back back in the post.
There are many jobs in photography, and weddings could be stressful, maybe babies portraits, or family portraits would be a better start to earn money.
Journalism is also a good area, with a good story attached to your photograph.
Start with your local newspapers and work up,

Yes, I work professionally. I have done weddings for many years but am slowing phasing out of it. VERY stressful and too many people today do not want to pay for good photography.. they just have a relative or friend take photos with goofy point and shoot digital cameras, so I'm pretty fed up with the whole wedding scene.

I am concentrating more effort on fine art and submissions to art galleries all over the country. I have had many works on display and also some sells. Money does not approach wedding profits, but I am actually much happier and more fulfilled... and that is what is really important.

As for getting film developed, I use A&I Labs in California. I use medium format film. I do scans of negatives with Nikon film scanner to create a film / digital hybrid. This is more common today for printing rather than using old style enlargers. I also use digital, and have most print work done at Mpix and Simply Canvas.

I am now 54, and began taking photos when I was old enough to hold a Kodak Brownie camera, sometime during elementary school I suppose.

Oh, I always use matte paper. Glossy is more of an amateur look, but if that is what the client wants, then I provide it for them. Kodak does have a metallic gloss paper that has a very nice look to it, but still, overall I prefer a textured matte surface. I prefer a print on true canvas better than any other medium and do this for most of my personal and gallery submitted work.

If you want a career in photography, I suggest taking courses in school rather than just drifting into it as I did. There is lots of competition today, and you need everything going for you that you can have.

Also, just being a good photographer is a very small part of being successful in the business. You must approach it as a BUSINESS. You need good business skills, and since it involves working with people, you have to be a rather good salesman, marketer, and even something of a psychologist!

Here are some of my photos if you would like to look. Many of these have been in art galleries, one has been published, and many have been sold. May give you some ideas:

good luck
