Art career that is low-risk?

I'm interested in drawing, photography, etc.People say I have talent, but I know I can do better. My question is,what are some careers that I can use my skills for that aren't a crap shoot?By crap shoot,I mean animator, comicbook artist, etc.I want to know some options that are less hit or miss.Job security is the path I want to go.

Probably the least risk is in commercial art, although all art jobs are a crapshoot. If you are talented, many places (such as advertising agencies) use staff artists to meet their art needs, although this is becoming less so as freelancers are becoming more cost-effective (no benefits, limited duration of employment) for companies that are concerned with the bottom line.

The real key to being successful in commercial art is to be fast and flexible, although talent does play a role. More often the jobs go to the less-talented artist who can meet a deadline than the prima donna that habitually misses them.
become an arts educator. stead work and pay and benefits plus you can still do your art
Have you ever thought of working for Disney or Pixar? Those artists are all multi-talented!! And by working with a company like that you may get the chance to do many different things; photography and drawing.
Art is Risk. become a graphic designer.... not very risky... your path is security... art and security are divorced concepts... when you are an artist you risk your soul. you risk your mind... you live on the edge emotionally, everything is information... you want something different.
good luck...
All art careers are a risk.

If you get your master's in a specific area of art, you can always become an instructor and private studios or even public colleges and universities. That would allow you time to work on personal art as well.

Safer areas are things in high demand right now, such as web-page design.

Getting in at any studio (such as Disney, WB, etc.) at any level, even not related to your dream art career can get you a step in the door. I know of several artists who have worked as secretaries or child care workers just to get within the company. Once you are within the company, they offer up job openings to current employees before the public, which gives you a big advantage. Also, you can work some connections there and find some key people to show your work to. Even if they don't need you now, they may remember you if something new comes up.

Always build as many connections as you can. The more people you know, the more jobs you'll hear about and so on and so on.
