Dr. Sam , Edwin and Jennifer D are right.

I have to tell you that all professional photography is not just about digital.

You will have to know how to use cameras from 4x5 view cameras, medium format and 35mm ... all film cameras.

Digital while highly visible at sporting events and being used by photojournalists; advertising, most magazine and most all print photography includes shooting film ... mostly transparency film, perhaps the most difficult to expose. Source(s): Editorial, sports and glamour photographer
Education. Experience.
IMO the first thing you need to do is either enroll in a photography class or apprentice yourself to a real working professional photographer. If you knew what you were doing you wouldn't be asking about what you need - you'd know.

A professional style camera does NOT make you a professional photographer. Knowledge of f-stops, light, shutter speed, ISO and composition make you a photographer.
Read as much about photography as you can and look at photographs dome by other people.

If you are able to get to a college course this is always a good start for someone wanting to take photographs for people, especially as you appear to want a career out of photography.
