What organizations can I join to travel around the world and help people? |
I know about the red cross and F.I.M.A, and the peace cores, are there anymore out there. And I recently am changing my major in college, I wanted to do photography, but now I want to help people, and yes I will help people from America as well but I would like to volunteer or even have a job for about a year in other country. I am not to sure if I should go into a field where I would be studying Medicine or Phycology, which would be better? Doctors Without Borders, don't dismiss the local Rotary Club as far as international networking goes, they might have some good ideas for you. WHO World Health Oraganization I recommend the Peace Corps. UNICEF. You might want to look at a very good book called Volunteer Vacations. It think it's in its 9th edition now. It covers dozens of short-term (weekend to a week) to long-term (one or more years) volunteering opportunities, most of them outside the U.S. It also provides some ideas on fundraising to get the money to do these things (most volunteer organizations don't have the money to fly you over to Africa or wherever--you generally have to pay for your transportation there, and, in some cases, your food and lodging while there, yourself). |
