Is a 2200 on the New SAT good enough to get into the Ivies and other top universities? |
I am a junior and I took the SAT last october and got 800 on Math, 740 on Reading and 660 on Writing. Also I took SAT II Math 2C and got 800. I dunno if i should take the SATs again... Here are my other Stats for admission: 1st in class of 400 (4.0gpa with AP's) Lt. Governor for Key Club (Lot's of community service over 200hrs) Varsity Track (400m and 800m) Church Youth Group Church basketball league Won 2 first places at state for Math Team FBLA State 4th place Knowledge Bowl(Just for fun) National Honors society 2 Job experiences over the past 2 summers (painting houses and photography) Chinese male - born in China Will probably get really good recommendations from Bio and Eng teacher. 224 on PSAT Please advise on whether or not I should retake the SAT's. Also what do you guys think about my chances to get in Harvard, Washington University in St. Louis, and other top colleges. oh btw, I plan to study medicine. thanks I don't think you need to retake the SAT. Your scores seem fine and you seem like a well rounded student! Schools will love that you excel in academics and participate in sports, community service, and church. The thing with schools like Harvard, WashU, and Duke, is that you never know who they are going to take. might actually accept admission. That's probably true for a lot of these top schools though. Don't forget to apply to reach and safety schools. Good luck! Source(s): wustl alum '06 Retake the SATs? For what? Are you a freaking perfectionist? An 800 Math score is plenty impressive by itself, and an over 2200 is outstanding. What more do you need? I understand wanting to excel, but wanting to improve something that's that good is just overachieving. Some schools may not even appreciate it if you retake it and get a lower score, or if you let them know that you retook it - they'll think that you care more about the score than you do about what you actually learned to GET the score. College isn't about performance - it's about learning, first and foremost. Also, why would you go to Harvard to study medicine? Go to Duke. You should get into Harvard but I would be concerned about Washington Univ. of St. Louis (jk) Good Luck!!! A 2200 is good enough. I am currently attending Brown University, and most of my friends here got scores around 2150. Your writing score is not that high in comparison to your c/r and math scores, but I don't think you should retake it. My experience Harvard is always a crapshoot. You will get into WUStL for sure and any other good school outside of the top five. Do you think you can seriously improve your SAT score? It does not sound like you are risking your perfect math score, but can you bring up your reading score? Have you done anything to improve your writing ability? If not, don't bother. Your scores are good enough to get you past the bar and unless you are applying to MIT or CalTech, they are above average everywhere else. Good luck! |
