Any tips??? please help!?

Hi, I'd like to move to new york, but I'm totally green about it. First time ever.. I need to find an apartment (in a safe area obviously), need to find a job, and take some photography classes. I'm 34, without much of a job experience (yes i was spolied..) I got a 2 year college degree. Do u think i have chances to make it over there? What tips can u give me? Is it gonna be difficult to find a place? Where do u suggest me to look for it? And how can I find a job?
Please avoid to answer if only have to say stupid things! Or sensless ones, or insults etc... I don't give a damn about it anyway, so it'd be a pointless waste of time for u. Thanks.

Since you were spoiled, maybe you can use that. You are going to need to lean on someone to make it. NYC isn't Springfield, Mo. You aren't going to get a place in a good area working retail. If you have a sizable stash of money, say $20K, it would be a good jump start. Else, I would try to find a job that pays a liveable wage before you move. Think in the $50K range.
First, find a job before moving. Don't take chjances, unless you will find yourself homeless. There are thousands of photographers including world renowed photogs in NY, so the chances you would make it are not that good. What do you want to do for a job while you take classes, I'm not sure I can tell you that without much detail on your degree on your little job experience?

Why don't you try Boston first, it's a bit easier than NY... when you make enough money, you can move to NY. There are lot of Art schools in Boston and many people in your position in Boston... A good school is the New England School of Photography
Patrick, unfortunately NYC is not only expensive, but as far as employment goes its also VERY competetive. A 2 year degree may get you a job at a resturant...but you dont have experience, so that may even be tough to achieve.

An apartment in Manhattan is 1500 a month for a cheap place in an ok neighborhood. You would probably do better in Queens..you can still find 1 bedrooms and studios for 800-1000 a month.

All in all...unless you've got a very large bankroll NY may be a little over your head and as another poster noted, you can find yourself homeless very quick in NY. If you decide to make the move, I wish you the best of luck, its a great city to live if you can afford it.
