What's it take to be a photographer? |
I'm starting to really injoy being behide a camera. i'm 13 and I'm thinking of making photography my job when I'm older do you think that would be a smart idea? and what do I have to go through to become one? If you want to have a career out of it, like I want to, practice alot now. Get a good camera. I have SLRs. Take lots of pictures, practice different modes, settings, lighting, composition, and lots of research online. Practice editing with simple programs, and show your pictures to EVERYBODY, to get feedback. If you like it, then go to college for your B.F.A in photography, or you can get an M.F.A in fine arts. That's a teriffic Idea. Photography is a great career. When you go to college, just go into the photography field, and everything will turn out fine. I photograph as a hobby, so I know where you're coming from. Have a camera? Yes? You're a photographer. Just take alot of good pictures of just about anything! Alot of people like pictures,but they don't like to take pictures! So if you take pictures for them! They're love it! if you're good at it! You'll go far! dude - if you want to make a living (when you are older) it really pays to have connections and know people. At 22 yrs. old and right out of college, you will not make a lot of money... Make sure that the love for the job is worth the pay cut. There is money in wedding photography - so if your friends have enough family when you get older, you can do wedding photography. Senior pictures for highschoolers brings in money as well - but these jobs are not artistic enough for the people who want do creative photography. Find something you love - like a band, music, animals, buildings, or fashion, whatever. Build a portfolio of photos you take at concerts or wherever applicable. Start now so you can see your photography mature. One thing to be mindful of when you go to college is the National Geographic internship. You get to go on assignment with National Geographic. N.G. has the best photoraphy in the world (arguably) and getting that position would almost garuantee you a job anywhere in the photo world when you graduate college. It's all who ya know. To become one, I'd say go to an art school (the academy of art, or the art institute) any college devoted to the creative fields. Like I said, if you want to be rich it may not be a "smart idea" but you can be as sucessful as you'd like over time and depending where you find your niche. It's good to be a Photographer when you get older,also have to take an exam of ARPS (London),APSNY (New York),even Bachelor of Arts in Photography(London). I have those titles after my name. |
