i'm interested in photography for long time , and i was searching alot about if ,i read some books ,magazines ,browsing the net . and i took some pics with my sybershot camera , but still don't know what to do to start the photography as a business ! plzz help I'm not completely sure, but I also am considering a career as a photographer, and am going on work experience with a professional photographer soon.
Make a portfolio of all your photographs (people, places, objects and plants) but obviously don't do it hurridly, spend time finding the right shots. Send off the portfolio to magazines and catalogues, companies. Ask if they are interested in your work (I would send off pictures of people and plants or whatever to catelogues where you might be working with other people, pictures of objects especially to companies where you could take pictures of their products etc). However my friend's dad is a photographer, and from what i know he takes pictures of wildlife and sells them to magazines, although he is sometimes asked by them to do projects on things, he also just travels around and takes photos, and then sells them on. Although by this point he is already an established photographer
People who photograph celebrities often just take the photos, and (very quickly) sell them to gossip magazines, or fashion magazines (those which have fashion gossip columns)
Hope this has been some help, good luck!! Goddamn people ask some stupid questions on here. First of all, how the hell do you expect to be a pro photographer when you can't form simple sentences and use proper grammar?
Second, you honestly think you can be a professional because you read some books and magazines, browsed the internet, and "took some pics" on your "sybershot?" Quit kidding yourself. I don't mean to toss cold water on your dreams, but surprisingly few people on the planet actually make enough money from photography to feed a family.
They are generally:
- photojournalists (including sports photogs)
- wedding photographers
- paparazzi (celebrity stalkers)
- portrait photographers (Sears etc.)
- commercial photographers (including fashion)
Unless you're one of the above, you should be regarding photography as a hobby.
I also think that because in five years everyone will have a high-quality camera on their cell phone, the paid photographer will be an endangered species.
I may be wrong. But before you go down this path, make absolutely sure there's a paying job at the end of it. A place to start would be your local college guidance counselor.
Hope this helps. |
