Photography Magazines?

What are your favorite and most useful photography magazines and why?

I have recently discovered AC (After Capture) which deals more with post production, but I am interested in finding other good ones.

Actually Ace, I'm not a guy and I haven't had my own darkroom in 24 years. I AM a computer nerd though.

You are definitely a darkroom kind of guy.

Most photographers are taught to spend all their time making images in the camera with as little post production as possible.

On that note, I am sure you will like this link

I am amused by photo magazines but when I was a pup, learned a lot from reading them. Pop Photo and Peterson's Photographic were the leaders then.

Now I enjoy B&W and Aperture magazines

EDIT: LOL, yes, I know ... years ago I was influenced by a southern woman who called all her friends guys ... since then guy has had on gender relationship to me ... sorry.

Black and White.

Aperture

http://www.aperture.org/

I'm new to it, but I'm enjoying "Aperture." It's more about the image and the thought behind it than the technique in making it. It kind of assumes that you are either "at a certain level" or "beyond all that" and want to know more about the creative process. At least that's my take after two issues. It's not chock full of ads for mail order businesses, either.

I just started back on American Photo, too. This is sort of the creative arm of PopPhoto and I think it's abouthalf-way between PopPhoto and Aperture. Closer to PopPhoto, maybe...

Aperture is expensive at $40 for six issues (with occasional discounts, so check on-line) and Am. Photo is pretty cheap as these things go. For two cover prices, you can get a year, so check it out that way. You might find Aperture in a library if you don;t want to commit or maybe buy a single copy in Barnes & Noble.

I've subscribed to Shutterbug for years.

After Capture's sister publication, Rangefinder, is one of the better ones:

And Photo District News is hard to beat:

As far as photojournalism goes, News Photographer is tops:

I read Adobe's Photoshop magazine--sold at Barnes & Noble, it offers plenty of tips for photography and mainly Photoshop tutorials and advice.

JPG magazine (jpgmag.com) is created by an online community of photographers who submit their work. Then, it's reviewed and finally published in the bimonthly magazine, complete with interviews, how-to articles, photo essays, and more.

Popular Photography has tips for photographers, and also a 'catalog' of equipment such as camera, lighting, and accessories in the back for comparing.
