Free Lance Photographer? |
Well, I am interested in becoming a free lance photographer. I was wondering if there is any age requirement, or if you need to sign any contract with the newspapers&magazine companies. I was also wondering how you get started. Would you talk with the newspaper/magazine companies & say something like... "I'm a free lance photographer asking for what kind of pictures you guys needed"? or something along those lines? Any information about Free Lance Photography would be GREAT. Thank you. There is a path photographers take during their careers. First the invest in themselves by attending photo classes. Some do this at local community colleges and others attend prestigious photo schools like Art Center or Brooks. Next they go to work as a staff photographer for a large company, magazine or newspaper ... OR .. work as an assistant for a successful photographer. It is usually only after many years of experience and building a hug list of possible clients and ancillary support people (like MUA's, stylists, photo and managing editors, Photoshop wizards, other assistants, well you get the idea) that they eventually can afford to go freelance. Before approaching any potential client, but sure the book you show them represents images that they would use, not just the best of your work. Take a look at what other freelance photographers are doing. http://www.blackbook.com Source(s): Editorial, sports and glamour photographer Heres some ideas study photography, make a "portfollio", buy lenses and bodies, canon and nikon are good, buy lights, flashes, tripods, study the science of the art, get some clients that will pay for your work is a good start if you goto photography school (like some of those out there looking for more work did) 35 hours a week, study 20 hours on top of that for a few months to a few years you will tend to learn faster with "teachers" teaching you than by your own hit and miss just my angle on it, their are great self taught pros out there - it takes a bit of skill just like any other profession - unlike say digging holes a no age requirements as such but you may fined that some people mill turn there noes or try to exploit your inexperience because of your age. news papers and mags if you have a photo they want to use it wont matter if you have been a photographer for 10 mins or 10 years. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/selli... this may help http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/selli... |
