Is Windows Vista now ready for the upgrade, or should I just stick with XP?

Now that it is July of 2007 I am up to hearing some good objective opinions about Vista. Without getting into details, my computer is more than powerful enough but what I am worried about is all the negative press Vista is getting. I know if you go places where sites could be getting revenue from Microsoft they are raving how great it is, so I go to sites where I know I will hear the truth and right now it does not look good. I would like you computer software people thoughts. Please keep in mind that I am into photography and mild gaming. One last note, a photo magazine I just read would not even recommend it do to a bug that can effect picture development. Good objective answers please!!!

There is no reason to "upgrade" (if such word can be used) to Vista if you are running XP and are happy with it.
Vista does not have anything worthy over XP other than eye candy; and if that's what you want, you can make XP look like Vista without the need to spend $$$hundreds$$$.

Vista is not more secure than XP - that has been proved many times in tests.
Vista uses a lot more resources than XP. Since you have a system with enough power, that may not be a concern; however your XP system will still be more efficient with its resources than with Vista.
Vista is even more restrictive with DRM.
Vista still has difficulties with hardware; particularly with some video cards (important if you are into gaming and multimedia); and with wireless devices.
Vista has many compatibility issues with current software. I know of a particular case with a CAD program; there may be problems with photo manipulating software too.
Vista is even more invasive on your privacy than XP. Microsoft wants to collect your information for their own purposes; Vista is plagued with programs that do this. And it will get worst.

In summary, don't waste your money. Unlike the change from Windows 9x to XP, which was a huge leap; there is nothing to justify paying a lot of dollars for Vista when you can do all you need (and more) with XP.

I work selling and servicing computers; I haven't had yet one customer satisfied with Vista; instead I have had several customers that have bought systems with Vista pre-installed paying me to roll back to XP.
There is no need to upgrade right now. If you are running XP perfectly fine on your machine, then stick with it until your machine dies. If you decide to upgrade, you have to deal with a ton of compatibility issues.
im using vista and its not that bad.I did have to buy a new video card though.it all depends on your current hardware configuration...vista is VERY hardware dependent if you have older stuff youll run into some compatibility issues especially with sound and video cards.
the operating system itself is not bad.it has nice effects and some of built in features are great.if you want better compatibility then stick with XP for now anyways. Ive heard that microsoft is going to release a service pack at some point for vista so i guess we will have to wait and see.
Good to differentiate "upgrade" from "new release." They can be the same thing, but not necessarily. Good comments here. Assess your needs.
