Can you get more than a associates degree in photography? |
I want to b a photographer for magazine covers and model photoshoot, but do u think just an associates degree will look good to the ppl hirrin me or should I go more advance because international academy of design and tech only has associate degree. Of course you can go to school for photography, many schools do have majors for a Bachelors in various fields of photography. I believe you can also get your Masters in fields such as Photojournalism. But while having all the knowledge is all well and good, most companies want someone with experience. Some ads may say "5 years studio experience, and photoshop experience required" and that ad is for a major sports apparel retailer. So there all your hard work in school could have been money better spent on your own studio, where you learn from your mistakes. As much as I would have loved to have invested money into my education, every picture that I take I look at with a strong sense of accomplishment. Whether it's that portrait that lands me that $300 sale or an image of a statue on a pillar, I know that I learned how to do that myself without someone else showing me how. For the same price you'll pay for books for college, you can buy books on posing, lighting, commercial photography, whatever you need to know is all available at your local Barnes and Noble. But to be really sure that you've got the qualifications for being a high fashion or commercial photographer for major companies, try going to HotJobs.com and typing in photographer and see what comes up. That will give you an idea of what you should have under your belt before you take a step into realm of photography you want to venture into. I would suggest going higher than associates if you want to make the "big leagues". I would say at least a bachelors, this could be in design or art...don't know if they have on specifically in photography though Yes, you can get a bachelors in Fine arts BFA with an emphasis in Photography. THere are other degrees also. CHeck out Columbia College in Chicago. Just be good at what you are doing and show results better than the competitors. |
