How do you start a magazine? |
im trying to start a young stylish magazine for just young women! I love photography and writing go to the index and find an article you find interesting then turn to that page and start reading! Well first figure out if your target audience has a need(or thinks they have a need) for your media type. If you were going to start a magazine that focus on recommending books for young women by young women then you would have to do research on what your target demographic needs were. All and all a lot of research is needed. It takes a lot of foot work and also it helps if you know where to find the reference material. Maybe I'm wrong but I think there are a lot of those magazines already. So if you do want to start a a magazine you could try to separate yourself from the others. I would suggest starting out as a small local or regional magazine. You will need to find a publisher. You will need writers, photographers, sales people especially. The biggest thing you need is money or potential for money. Maybe a repuatable advertiser to attract other advertisers. Although you may on the standard world plane ocnsider stepping into the magazine world from the bottom and try to get your pieces into already known magazines. You may find that harder than you might imagine. Or one last thought start and e zine online. Websites are cheap and if you are good at publishing a website would be a snap. Good luck word by word. write interesting article First you may want to reasearch the magazine business first. Make sure also you know what kind of magazine you want to start. Then look at the competition. try to avoid doing something that's already out ten times.
