What is a good Photography magazine? |
What are some good magazines that gives you tips and shows pictures of the month or something and that holds contest and stuff? A great magazine with legitimate contest is Photographer's Forum. It's a really nice magazine to look at-lots of inspiration. They have 2 contests per year, one for college students and the other is open to anyone. You can read more on this magazine at www.serbin.com. The following are magazines that I like. The ones toward the top of the list are a lot more commercial in my opinion. Towards the bottom of the list the magazines are little more artsy. They all have contests though. Check out the web sites to get a feel for the content of the actual magazines. PC Photo (pcphotomag.com) American Photo and Popular Photograpy (popphoto.com) Shutterbug (shutterbug.com) Photo Techniques (phototechmag.com) Photo District News (pdnonline.com) Aperture (not sure if they have a site) Hustler In answer to the first question I really like Flaunt. Though that is not really a photo mag per se, it always has great images. Focus and Aperture are both good magazines and I also enjoy reading American Photo from time to time. As to the second question. Perhaps Popular Photography would work as it has a lot of useful/useless tips and how-tos. There are so many! Some are purely technical while others focus more on the fine arts side. PDN (Photo District News)- features photographers work, and concentrates more on the fine art aspect. It is also aimed more to students. Shutterbug- features photoshop tips, product reviews. Aperture- This magazine focuses more on the fine art aspect as well. -The best thing to do would be to go to Barnes and Nobles and browse through there Photography magazines. They have so many, and many different kinds. If you are working with Digital Photography and Adobe Photoshop there are books that are specifically designed for photographers using Photoshop. |
