Any suggestions on medical schools and/or universities within England?

Also, how long in advance should I apply to an university?
I'm currently in year 11, so guessing it's a bit too early, but nevertheless, I want to be prepared.
Furthermore, does GCSE's really count? I understand that is all universities get to look at and judge upon considering I won't know my A level results.

Lastly, I've been told that Photography is not considered as an academic subject. I'm thinking of taking Chemistry, Human Biology, English Literature and Photography...Will this be acceptable for medicine?

Concentrate on getting A's in about four or five subjects. When you get to A level concentrate o getting A's as well because my friends are applying and its tough. I can't tell you about photography but general studies and critical thinking are not looked upon favourably and at some med schools, any subject with less than 60% therory is not considered good enough.Just get your GCSEs first. However grades are not the be all and end all:
1. You NEED work experience and good quality experience at that
2. It is advisable to get voluntary work
3. When you write your personal statement, make it GREAT! It really matters.
There's always other ways though if your grades are not up to scratch, such as widening access to medicine schemes at Southampton and UEA. I'm sure you'll be fine though.
You've got loads of time though. Just work really hard and be confident and focused. (But not too geeky, I think selectors hate that).

You apply when your in AS levels, they'll have these grades to look at as well as your GCSE's. Plus you NEED experience, grades are not enough. My Bf's sister got straight A's but didn't get in, you need experience. When i was looking at medicine it was 15 people competing for every 1 place available so you need to stand out.
I recommend you go on this course I went on, they tell you everything you need to know! Try and go before you apply.
