Getting into college? Please help college advisors!?

Hi, so I'm a sophomore in high school right now and I would like to go to Stanford. Last year I was in FFA. This year I'm involved in FBLA, which is a business club, Key Club, and Science Club.
I have a question though, what would look better to Stanford, photography or art club? And junior and senior year I'll be in NHS as well. I plan to do all 4 or 5 clubs for the rest of high school. And do you know what other clubs Stanford likes to see?
My weighted GPA is 4.5 right now and I have 3 honors classes. Is taking 4 years of Spanish, up to AP Spanish 5, reccomended greatly? Also, is taking AP history classes a big deal to colleges because that's not really my thing?

By graduation, I'll have taken 5 science classes, 5 math classes, up to AP Spanish 5, 3 business classes with an internship, and honors 9, 10 english and AP english 11, 12, and other classes too.

I also plan to volunteer at organizations for a total of 500 hours hopefully by my senior year.
Any other advice? Thanks

Thank you, it really helped. What classes and activities did you take to get into Yale and Harvard?

Neither art club nor photography club would necessarily look "better" to Stanford. Choose the club in which you will be able to accomplish more (in terms of producing work, or serving in a leadership role), because that is what will look good to Stanford.

It's good to have community service, and it looks like you're doing that through Key Club. Other than that, though, there aren't really any specific clubs that Stanford, or another college, wants to see. What colleges want to see is (1) a variety of activities/clubs (2) commitment to these clubs over a long period of time (3) achievements within these clubs (4) leadership, such as serving as President or running a committee.

Taking AP classes is kind of "a big deal" in that colleges want you to challenge yourself academically. And if you can do well in a broad range of classes (science, math, history, etc.) that's good. But, if history is so much "not really your thing" that you would get a B in AP history, instead of getting an A in AP Chemistry or Honors trigonometry, or something else that you would take, then take the class you would get an A in. (But don't take a really low-level class just to get a good grade!)

500 volunteer hours also sounds like plenty, and is good. But how will you indicate this in your application? You don't want to sound like you're bragging. Maybe ask your college adviser to mention in his/her recommendation letter that you have done "several hundred hours of community service." Or have him/her mention the 500 hour figure. But I wouldn't throw that number out yourself.

College admissions aren't going to split hairs between which elective or which club or which AP course you chose. They look at the overall picture.

Try to demonstrate a clear interest. Don't just sign up for as many things as you can - focus on the few that are really important to you, and become a leader in those areas. If you join a club, become an officer; if you enroll in a class, excell in it. But don't drive yourself crazy trying to do everything.
