What kind of camera should I purchase?

I love photography, and i always wanted to pursue that as my career, but I decided against it, and I told myself i was going to go into education, well, being 17 and a Junior in high school, I've changed my mind.

I don't care about the money anymore, i want to do something with my life i love, so, my question

What kind of camera should i get?
right now, i have a low quality samsung
im getting my tax return here soon, and ill spend only about 200 of it, but i want to get a better camera,
I refuse to buy another samsung, i had a fuji before, and i like that one.

Any suggestions?

*I do know quite a bit about cameras and photography
So, I don't want a 'beginners' camera

Well, remember money is what will let you "do something with your life".

Since you have sworn off money you should buy a camera that you can have for a long while and is very reliable. I recommend a Nikon D200, Nikon D2x or Canon Mark II.

Nevermind, I just read your $200 limit. I would recommend a Panasonic or Leica p&s. Make sure whatever you choose it can shoot .RAW.

I have had many cameras and Cannon I think is over all the best brand. Out of all of the cameras they have I love the Canon PowerShot SD 800 Is Digital ELPH which is 7.1 Mega pixel. I think it would be perfect for you even though it is kind of expensive.

i would evaluate your intensions first. if you want to make money with your pictures, you will need to Save to get the camera you want. I would "Start" with a good SLR and familliarize yourself with the basic functions of shooting. (Not the auto modes). if you already know Manual mode then you are a step ahead already.
I would go with a Canon or Nikon, which are the leaders at the moment in the digital imaging world. I especially like Canon as a Canon user. I also like Nikon for their autofocus and Flash technology.
These two also have a Big selection of lenses so as you make money and need to expand your arsenal, there is plenty of lenses available.
A good Canon starter is the Rebel XTi which has awesome resolution, i think 10MP and Digic III image processor. It also comes with a good all purpose lens.
it will set you back maybe 700.
if you don't want to spend this kind of money just yet, you can go with a Canon or Nikon point and shoot, but to get quality at that point you will spend half of a SLR. I would recommend going the extra mile and saving for the better camera. it will have better potential out of the box and with prints, you cant compare.
Remmember, a 10MP SLR will have much better print quality than a 12MP point and shoot. so if prints are a potential for your income go with the better.
Good Luck.
