Whats concert photography like?

i know its vague, but really, what does it entail? as in skills.

i'm really interested because im thinking of getting into it once school is over and i can really incorporate myself into it.

if you've read my earlier question, i'm going for a d50 first, learning the law with that body with maybe a fishnet and some type of other lens( not sure yet ), and then a d80 once im comfortable.

It is a high energy assignment and depending upon your passes access, you can get some amazing images of popular performers.

I mostly use two lenses .. the 24-85mm f/2.8 Nikkor and 12-24mm f/4.0 Nikkor. Most concert stages are lit for video taping so there is plenty of light to hand hold your camera and shoot at 400 ISO

Just don't loose your event pass. Some enthusiastic groupies like to rip them off your neck as a souvenir. I keep mine under my shirt except when I have to present it to security from time to time.

NOTE: If you are talking about a fishEYE lens, they have little use in concert shoots. Better to stick with the 12-24mm for wide or forced perspective shots

Indoor concert photography demands the usual skills of good composition and a sense of the decisive moment.

Plus:

--- a camera that can shoot clean images at high ISO

--- "fast" lenses that can provide for fast shutter speeds to stop motion

--- in most cases a media pass or other permission to shoot

Unless you need two cameras, just get the D80. There's next to no difference in the operation of it and the D50.

I don't know what a fishnet lens is, but you should be saving up for f2.8 or faster lenses.

A 70-200 f2.8, 85 f1.4 and a 50 f.14 should be in your bag.
