I want to study photography when i get to high school . . . tips?

Okay. So i love photography, taking pictures, looking at cameras. When i get to upper/high school, what should i expect to learn about? Can anyone give me advice? Tips ? or just tell me facts about photography, cameras . . . ect
Thank you, if you answer you are helping me a lot !

If your school has a photography class or club join it.

Pay attention in class, and don't come here asking us to do your homework for you.

Go to the library on your own and over the summer and read all the books you can about photography. Troll the internet for information as well.

Go out and apply the knowledge gained from books, get a good real world experience.

You could get a part time job working at a photolab, or a studio.

Photography is a "go getter" kind of profession. If you really want to do this, then you need to go out and make it happen. Expect nothing to be given to you for free.

first, youll wanna learn all the controls on your camera and what they do and what they actually do in relation to eachother.. a fully manually controlled camera is going to be a nesessity also.. then youll want to study the different types of photography and lighting, and what lighting actually means. as for dark room stuff, unless youre gonna shoot film i wouldnt worry too much, i dont think HS photography covers Medium and large format photography and they definetly wont be teaching you how to develope it. Most of all, have fun.

If you know what H.S. you are going to, look them up online and see what classes they offer as electives. Most have black and white photography. I remember making a camera out of a Quaker Oats canister. it was a lot of theory and practice. It got me out of the classroom to take pics. Also, you may want to inquire with the yearbook staff. Also, look into community center classes in your city. And lastly, never under estimate your local Library! There are good expensive books you can borrow and read.

If you're going to a public high school, don't expect them to take the class to seriously. When you get into college is when you get to learn the good stuff.

For example, I wanted to learn how to do 3D animation. I took a year-long class of it in high school. Everything I "learned" in that class the entire year took me only 2 days to learn once I got into college.

But hey, maybe I just went to a very crappy high school and yours is actually good and they'll actually teach you stuff there.

so you're serious about it.

-do you already have an SLR camera? film or digital?
it's the camera to use where you can control the aperture, speed etc etc... go search for it on the net. i'm sure you'll be thrilled when you have that.
you can easily view the results in digi, while in film you have to develop it and you''re not really sure how the pics will look like. it's a better training i guess.
Canon and Nikon are the good ones. be sure to take extra care of it.

-when you already have it, you also need a tripod to prevent camera shakes so your pics wont get blurred if you have to take picture at low speed.

-borrow/read photography books. they're worth buying or borrowing. they'll also inspire you

-look for tutorials on net. search for photographs

-it depends on YOU how much you can learn when you get to high school even if everyone else learns crap. Self-study if you're really serious, then apply it. experience it and most of all enjoy!

......Don't worry about cameras and equipment -- the world is full of people who take technically perfect pictures of cr*p.

......Concentrate on developing the ability to see and capture images that will communicate with other human beings.

......Buy this book: http://www.amazon.com/Henri-Cartier-Bres... and study it religiously.

......Shoot lots of pictures and judge yourself brutally. If after 50,000 images you have more than 10 in your portfolio, you're not being critical enough.

..... If you have a choice between seeing the world or buying camera stuff, see the world.

Just my 2 pesos.
