How do you make a black and white picture have a specific color object?

I just recently became really into photography, i know it takes alot of time and hard work and i willing to do so. I am going back to school in the spring to continue the studies. I was just wondering if anyone knew how to have color STAND OUT in a black and white picture. I.E a model is wrapped in caution tape, the picture is black and white but the caution tape is the original color. All help is appreciated. THANKS

I find it really easy if I concern myself with the picture first, in color. Than load the image up in Photoshop. Use layers to get the desired effect by copying the image again in black and white, then layering the images to get the disired effect. I have the Photoshop Elements 4.0, and it does the job just fine!
You've got to shoot in color and photoshop the result. Or shoot in b&w and color in, photoshop again. We used to do this the old fashioned way with b&w prints and highlighter pens.
Georges M茅li猫s, the early French filmmaker, had each frame hand-colored. Today, one would shoot in color and desaturate the bits you want to appear in black and white.
