Do I have to be good at drawing?..? |
..to take fine art photography in college. I know in most schools it is required, but I am not good at drawing. When I went to art school each course had different requirements. Before you sign up for photography check with the college to see if they prefer that you have had a drawing class. I had to have it before I could take painting. It didn't hurt at all. The teacher covered so many things besides drawing itself that helped with my painting. Like putting in enough darks to make the completed piece pop so it didn't have a dead gray look.. In taking photography I'm sure you would need some background courses so you can do your best in composition and the other choices you have to make in creating your photos. We were not judged in drawing as if we were making a perfect photo. It was was a great experience learning to use different tools and mediums and getting all kinds of affects. Take the drawing course and enjoy it. Best of luck and best wishes...hugs from across the cyberspace miles.Mama Jazzy Geri I think that drawing class is probably a prerequisite in most colleges to pursue an art major, but I don't think that you have to be GOOD at it. It is mostly about having an artistic eye and showing your creativity and giving your best effort. "Good" in art is relative. Picasso...enough said. Just go and sign up for the classes you want and find out when you get in there. Also, never underestimate the "art" of faking it. Example: "My stick figures represent the simplicity of life, but my use of color represents how humanity tries to complicate that simplicity." Be a politician with your life, dude! Good luck! As Picasso said - Oh to draw like a child. or something like that. It has nought to do with being good at it but it is a basis for all art. Just do it and forget your idea of good or bad. You'll learn a lot. And find you enjoy it, particularly life drawing for you will be doubtless dealing with life. Dizzy. Drawing experience is paramount in art but you don't have to be great at drawing to be great at photography. Go for it and good luck! You should speak with the art department at the school you're applying to and find out more about their program, because different schools will teach art in different ways. I know Fine Art majors who absolutely hate drawing, but because they are emphasizing in design or photography, are able to avoid taking drawing classes entirely. Personally, I feel that a little diversity never hurt anyone. Just make sure your portfolio reflects your kind of artwork and you should be fine. Don't try to trick the school into thinking you are something that you aren't. u could always use a drwing software, just don't let the teacher find out thoough |
