I want to be a photographer, what do i need to do? |
im getting a new 325$ camra. I want to be a photographer when i "grow up" im currently a freshmen in high school, I was woundering: - what kind of classes i need to take in high school to be a photographer - what are some good colleges. - and photo tips. the kind of photography i want to do is of places & thing & peaple, NOT weddings or portrite or school pictures.... Art related classes can help you with photography. Photography is an artform itself, dealing mostly with light and composition. It depends on how you as a photographer capture the moment; the emotion and movement. In college, you will go into depth on how to control the camera's shutter speed and manipulate the light to get certain effects. It is not as easy as it seems but as long as you stay dedicated, I'm sure you will do very well. take classes at a local college. you can take them for one semester. Or for as many as possible Wait, hold on there. You haven't even started to learn how to use a camera, and already you are thinking about college to learn more about using one? You've got a few growing years ahead of you, before you will even know for sure what you want to do with your life. Most of us, change our minds several times as more things come into play with our lives. And we get exposed to more things. Learning photography is a good hobby. And you will enjoy the visual treasures you capture, every time you snap a picture. But tell me, why such an expensive camera right away? You can get by with a fixed lens that is a 35 MM and get some great pictures. Later on, in a few years, then you'll be more ready to have something more expensive that you'd want to buy several lenses for, for different shots. As for courses to take as electives, that is what your school councelor is for. She would know the extra curriculum the school will offer and she can advise you on what is available to take. Naturally if they do have a photography course, it would be in the "beginner" category. Then intermediate, and then advanced, as the years go, up to your senior year. You will need to do some reading on photography in your spare time to give you even more information on what you will be needing to have in photography equipment. And what the different functions are for different attachments, and for the light meter, and using a tripod, etc. You may even need to brush up on your basic math skills too. As you will need to know measurements for distance to judge objects for far and near shots. It's much more in depth, than just having a point and shoot camera and click away. You'll have good advice from your councelor on local colleges that offer photography and you can contact the administration offices to reach each one, to send you a brochure or two which offer some of the curriculum you would be interested in taking. You'll find alot of photo tips, within your reach at the local library. Just ask a librarian to help you find what you are looking for, and she will lead you to the area with the help of index cards or thru the library computer. Take the journalism class at your school and work on the school paper as a photographer. See if you can get an internship with your local newspaper or with a commercial photo studio in your area. Join as a student member of NPPA and ASMP and attend their meetings. The top photoschools in the US Art Center Brooks Cal Arts RIT Links below http://www.nppa.org http://www.asmp.org http://www.artcenter.edu http://www.brooks.edu http://www.calarts.edu http://www.rit.edu before buying a new camera look up on ebay for older cameras. there's a reason why there still around. I've used my Minolta X-570 for 8 years now, and i havent found a film camera i like more, or does more. seriously look into it, minolta X series, and Nikons from the mid 80's are awesome cameras, and you can generally get the body and 2 or 3 lenses, with goodies for less than $200. you go hard maddie, dont let other try and blow out your candle. art class is good, as photoace said also school paper, learn light and exposure thats the science part go hard |
