Would you take this opportunity?

I'm in a 3 yr nursing program and have the chance to switch over to the 2 yr program. Basically, if I switch over, I'll be done quicker. The thing is, I'll have no summer breaks. I dunno why but I'm getting this fear about getting out into the real world too soon. I wanted to stay in college an extra yr so that I'll have more time to make some connections and some new friends. See, I just transferred to this new college and have not yet made any new friends because I'm so busy w/ school and plus I'm working on my depression and self-esteem issues which has a great deal to do w/ my relationships. Neway, I do plan to go back to school after I graduate for another degree (photography and theatre) at the age of 25...hopefully thats not too old...maybe I'll have more of a chance to socialize. Hey, do u guys have any recommendations of some things I can do to socialize and meet new people when I get out into the real world...I'm afraid I'll just end up working all the time.

I would suggest you take the 2 year course, however whilst its important to study when possible, make sure to take breaks as I've seen people study profusely, then become disillusioned about the whole thing when its nearly over, become bored and fail the exams (that happened to me at my college when studying A levels). Of course, don't underdo studying either! Finding your perfect work/fun balance is up to the person and different for everybody. The summers off may make readapting to constant study difficult, but it will be time to recharge and renew determination. In the end, do which ever you believe is best.

I'm only 19 and I have many of the social problems you appear to have. You might just lack being social whilst in a group due to low-self esteem, but when talking one to one find it much easier. However, work is a great place to meet people to make friends with as you'll end up liaising with somebody along the line. The best advice is to always be yourself, even if it doesn't seem like it somebody there will likely you, especially for your obvious hard work ethic.
Try to enjoy your time at school.
Everyone needs a summer break!
There will be many years to work!
I would not recommend switching.
You seem to have many issues as it is.. so....
why complicate things further?
Take a deep breath!
Stay on course!
Try to join a club or professional organization that is related to what you intend on doing. Not only will you surround your self with people that are interested in the same thing as you, but you will create networking connections that may help you in the future.
