Camera Help.?

I am in search of a really good camera. It can't be over $700 if they even are that much. I don't want one that is to bulky but I am looking to join a photography club at my school this year and want one that can take really good pictures. I'm not into the really tiny tiny ones too. I know I will probibly break it. Suggestions please!!!

HAVING HAD VARIOUS CAMERAS,IN ALL PRICE RANGE I"VE FOUND CAMERAS TODAY ALL TAKE GOOD PICTURES. IT ISNT THE CAMERA BUT THE OPERATOR AND KNOWING HOW TO USE IT
The advice about the d40 is good. If you really want to go cheap (in case you decide you aren't into this kind of camera or whatever), considering finding a used Canon digital rebel (300d) with a lens. It was the first entry level dSLR, and it will give you all of the same control as a newer camera....but you should be able to find a used one for very cheaply. If you like it, you would probably eventually want to upgrade to a really nice dSLR (perhaps a Canon 30d or a Nikon d200). Good luck! :)
I have a 300d, and it's a nice camera.
for good high quality pictures for cheap, try the Nikon D40x.

though it is a DSLR (the bulky kind) it is the smallest one i know, weighing in at only 16 ounses.

it is about $600, but for a lot cheaper, you can get the d40 which is a 6.1 Megapixel camera and shoots amazing photos for the price.
You might want to buy a 35mm SLR on the cheap at most photography stores. Adjusting shutter speeds, and apertures changing a lens. This would be just for a learning process.
Somewhere down the road buy your self a digital camera.
For the most affordable DSLR with image stabilization built into the camera body, it's the Pentax K100D 6.1 mp kit which consists of a Pentax 18-55 mm. normal lense and a Pentax 50-200 mm. telephoto selling for $650 at samys.com. This Pentax camera kit runs circles around the Nikon D40, D50 and D80 which do not have image stabilization built in except within their very costly VR series lenses.

Good luck!
