Bachelor's in fine arts?

i want to get a bachelor's in fine arts but dont know what kind of work there will be after. i want to major in studio art or photography. also could i double major with these two? what oportunities are there for me. also i plan to go to HCC then transfer into the university of texas in austin? can anyone help or have any suggestions?

I would strongly recommend going for design/photography. When you go for a BFA, your whole first year will introduce you to the studio arts.

While studio art, especially sculpture, is one of the most personally rewarding professions, you need to be realistic. So, majoring in graphic design, minoring in photography will offer you greatest chances of employment post graduation. My friends from college, who majored in design or photography, are all highly paid graphic designers, mostly located in NY.

Not too many people attempt to follow a professional photography career for too long, because most of the post-graduate work (that is resume building quality) will not pay well, or simply not pay. Becoming a professional photographer takes time, patience, money, and humility. Many of your first jobs will include nothing more than getting coffee for your boss and using a light meter.

Unlike photography, graphic design, is much more accessible. And, to be honest, I do not know one graphic designer that is not involved with photography on a daily basis.

Please understand, I am greatly generalizing these techniques from the perspective of career opportunities. If money was no factor, I would definitely tell you to major in one of the studio-arts: sculpture, painting, drawing......In any event, good luck with your choice.

Go with photography, you can't really do anything with studio art. I have a BFA from U of Michigan. If you get it in photography then you have somthing that is marketable when you go to get a job. studio art (like I did) is hard to actually find work in

Go with photography. Whether you do studio portraits or newspaper/magazine work, there is always a need. In fact, as long as there are little children and doting grandparents there will be a need for photographers! LOL!
