What's a good hourly rate A.) for shooting B.) for processing photography work in my own small business?

I'm not a PRO pro, but I know what I'm doing and I have good work and a unique item idea. What are the best rates to be good competition against the local studios?

Go to http://www.salary.com/ or http://www.salaryexpert.com/ and enter the data for the job.

I work in film, but I come across a lot of Photographers. I'd charge about 800 an hour and then a set price for processing. maybe set a price that's right for the client. For just processing and a shoot, I'd expect to pay about 10k a shoot from a semi- pro. I'd pay a lot more for digital editing though.
I have seen photographers who charge a lot more than this. It depends what you're shooting for.

You must consider the idea of competing with the pros in your area. To get into a business you may want to start cheap and get your name out there. A pro can sit and wait for a good shoot but a beginner/ pro may not be able to. You should make a bunch of phone calls and check out the competition in the field you intend to work in.
Three hundred to fifteen hundred a day for shooting is not bad depending on how much equipment you use. That would be around the house (local area). If you add travel expense, lodging and living expenses the price would "shoot" right up.
Commercial work is good money but you have to be prepared for alot of "stuff" that comes with taking care of a commercial client. A years income should be made from a commercial client for a "job" ...... so ...... what your life style like. Maybe I should say "should be, could be"........

Good Luck
