I need to start a photography studio from scratch where should i buy? ebay? new york?

There's a lot more to a studio than just photo equipment. But I have had very good luck buying from http://bhphotovideo.com for the equipment itself. In fact, I began buying from them before there was an internet to order from them.

I've also had good luck buying and selling used equipment on ebay. I don't think I would buy new equipment there.

Good luck with your project.

Developing a relationship with a local photo retailer is one of the best moves you can make if you want to get serious about photography (and make any money it it).

So your best place to buy studio equipment is at the nearest pro shop.

Why? Because you can...

--- get expert advice from a real person
--- rent or borrow stuff to try it out
--- bargain for a discount
--- complain to a real human being if the gear isn't right, and have something done about it immediately

Yes, you'll probably pay more than you would online.

But try asking the guy on craiglist why your Pocket Wizards have stopped working the night before a big shoot.

HTH.

I give a thumbs up to B & Photo Video too. Their prices cannot be beat. Their shipping is super fast and cheap and they are pleasant to deal with. All of their equipment is top notch. They have been around for a long time and have a very good reputation. I have never had a problem with them.
