Do I need to have a business license to claim my photography business on my taxes? I am in California.? |
I made $650, lost $1500 and opperate within city limits. I aquired this business in 2007 and have a home office/studio souly for that purpose. I didn't get a license and now I am unsure if I can claim it. Yes, you can still report/claim it.. but if you are in business you should always have a license.. and if you are doing this business in your home, you need to get a home occupancy license, usually an additional $50 a year with the license fee. If you are licensed, these fees are also deductible on your schedule C. Best Wishes. NOPE. You are self-employed even though you lack a business license. You ought to get one if you continue, but it's not required for IRS filing. Your records and receipts are important. You are liable for self employment taxes and should be making quarterly estimated tax payments this year. |
