What are Ideal Lights to use within a studio setting? |
I am creating a small photo studio, what kind of lights are ideal for studio lighting. I am preferrably looking for soft white light. And I do plan on doing color photography. I am using some Tungsten photoflood lights, but I always get too warm of a look. You should be able to select a white balance setting to correct for your lights. If money is an issue, the cheapest way to go is to buy a gray card from a photo store (less than $10). Take a shot of the grey card and use that as your white balance reference. "Ideal" lights are more likely to be strobes. For softer light, a softbox or umbrella will diffuse the light. I built my studio on a budget, so I opted for "softbox umbrellas" from amvona.com (buy through ebay auctions, much cheaper). I love them! You can get umbrella lighting for tungsten lights too, make sure they can handle the heat. strobist.blogspot.com has a wealth of information. Much of the information is specific to strobes, but can be applied to tungsten lights as long as you consider heat. Source(s): www.amvona.com www.dpreview.com strobist.blogspot.com well, if you can have large windows that allow alot of natural light, that would be best. Other than that, I think what you have is good. If you feel you have too much of a warm look, try and not have the light directly on the artwork. May help. I love Alien Bees. You've got good answers here. Yes natural window light is great if you have it but if not, strobes would be your best choice. You should need no more than three lights to get started(some would say less, some more) one for your main light, one for fill and another for optional hair light. Definitely a softbox and umbrella. Amvona was mentioned and I've bought from them and their good but if you want top quality without spending too big a fortune I'd recommend the Alien Bees, which I use. They also carry a line of soft boxes and umbrellas that are affordable, not cheap, but affordable. Good luck in your endeavors! Sunlight, moonlight,starlight,satelite,s... light, room light, etc. |
