Best studio lighting? wattage? |
I am getting 2 softboxes and 2 umbrellas for a small in-home studio. What should I be looking for when buying? I was told that silver interior was the best for my type of photography and portraiture and to get 1 medium size and 1 large size softbox and 2 diff. size umbrellas. However, what is the best wattage for these lights? should i get diff. wattages? help! I'd get the same wattage because then I only need one type of bulb. You'll be bouncing light off the back wall for depth and lighting the figure from two angles (key and fill) so I think you can use the same wattage and just work with distance - simply moving the light away if you want it to be the fill light. I don't think you can go wrong really, you want an even field that you can manipulate. happy clicking! You did not mention what types of lights you were looking (brand, model type etc). But like anything else the more power you have the more control you will have. Since you are working in a small home studio you can get away with having both of them at the same power but each should have adjustments so you can have a "main light" and a "fill light". 100-200 watts is sufficient for small home use for portrait work etc. I picked up a this small set for light travel and they actually are pretty good and they did better than I expected for the amount of watts and price and everything is included. There are also more powerful ones so you have a look. Here is the link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/40... Hope this helps, Kevin Professional Photographer |
