Can anyone tell me how to make a home photography studio? |
I enjoy photography but i cant seem to ever get the lighting right and i would like to do some prom photos for people, can anyone tell me how to get a good indoor studio with great lighting i can make myself and backdrops/props. The theme is Parris I suggest four steps: 1. Buy a very basic book on lighting which explains standard lighting setups such as Rembrandt lighting. Learn 2 or 3 basic setups, and associated poses. There are tons of Internet resources on this to supplement your book, do a Google search and read lots. 2. Buy at least four lights with supports/stands, unilights with soft boxes if you have the money, hot lights with umbrellas, etc if you don't. At a minimum you will need a main light, a fill light, a hair light, and a background light. Also get some white and black foam board for reflectors/absorbers to control fill lighting. 3. Buy a couple of nice backgrounds, or make them yourself, depending on your creativity and skills with cloth. You can put a background on a wall or make a PCV pipe background stand for less than $25, or buy a good background stand 4. Practice your photo taking on friends or family till you get it right. Use just the basic lighting setups till you understand light and shadows and the interplay between main and fill light.
