Do you like my picture? Any tips?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/21421596@N0...

I don't have many photos on my account, but I enjoy photography a lot. I am young, so I hope that with time I can improve. I may want to go into photography as a profession. Any tips?

i do like your photos. i really like how you get up close to your subjects. usually people start with black and white b/c color can be difficult to work with and they try to work on there compostition. i like your choses with placement to make an interesting composition and how u always show depth by focusing on an abject and getting a blurred background.

my friend in photography always get assignments to take pictures in a series. maybe you should come up with a theme and take a series of picture that try to provoke that theme either emotionally or by using symbols. that way you can practice not just your technical skills but also sending messages and evoking emotion in your work

yah looks really pretty just take pictures of everything u like and youll get better but ur really good i could never take that

It is a bit dull- the composition is good, the lighting and colour needs work- use a photo editing programme such as Adobe Photoshop to play around with the levels of contrast, it is amazing what this can achieve.

I like it.

You seem to have selective focus down and know how to bring the details but a couple I wasn't sure what the subj was- always know what your subj is and find a way to draw attention to it. Al in all some good shots!

It's lovely darlin. You have one light source and you've captured the berry nicely and I would suggest that you use a second source of light. In this case a soft reflection on the opposite side of your main light source. Here you can use a clean white board, and what this does is reflect the light back on to the shadows without taking away from the form of the object. Be it a flower, or nut, or a strawberry. (be sure that the board is not in the picture frame)
This action casts what is called an "after shadow", which is a bit of an oxymoron as the reflection is actually more light strengthening the works visuals.
So a main light source with a secondary source opposite the subject and you've got a better photo.
If you want to go into photography as a profession then I would counsel a post secondary education in the photographic field.
Here where I am Ryerson Polytechnical in Toronto offers an internationally known course in photography. Don't know where you are but look around. It will do you a world of good.
All the best to you.

i like what you are trying to do i like the composition, but the glare is very distracting and the strawberry isn't vibrant

Well, the strawberry image is not working too well. The strawberry usually means warm and summer, while the image is coated with a cool blue cast. This is not working for me. Change the white balance, or adjust this in Photoshop. The other images seem more like snapshots. While anything can become an interesting photo, this is where you have to really bring your knowledge and creative side in on it. The only real way to help develop your knowledge is take some classes at a local college, or hit the books. Practice, and learn. Learn about the 'rules' of photography: Composition, rule of thirds, emphasis, lighting, and so on. Sorry if this is not much help, but this is my advice. Hope this helps.

I'd use a warmer white balance to bring out the red, and crop off that dead space to the left. It just doesn't look enough like a strawberry. It looks fake and unappetizing.

The strawberry is not placed to well. Also, it is not in focus and does not have much contrast. The center is in focus, but you want to see the whole thing. Try making the aperture smaller to increase the depth of field. I looked at your other photos and many seem to have this problem. Just experiment with depth of field and you will get better quality photos. If you haven't, take a few classes. You seem to know the rule of thirds, which is a great start.

I think it's a pretty cool photo! You've got a good handle on composition with this one, with the strawberry off-center. It is sharp where it's meant to be in focus. You might improve it or add a little interest to it by rotating the berry so that it "points" into the frame (into the middle) instead of out of the frame (toward the edge). you could also improve this shot with better light. It's a little bit dark, which doesn't help convey the idea of a juicy, tasty, sweet berry very well. Using natural light or increasing the brightness in Photoshop could help. Or using a longer exposure so that more light is allowed to reach the sensor or film could also improve your light situation. With a longer exposure, you'll want to use a tripod so you don't get a blurry picture! Using a tripod and a longer exposure (the shutter is open for a longer amount of time) will also allow you to use a smaller aperture (like the "eye" of the camera). A smaller aperture will make more of the berry be in focus.

I think you'll be able to improve your photography with a little study on controlling light. There are lots of books on this subject, as well as online photography tutorials and forums that you can check out. You are doing well so far - keep it up!
