Under water photography from the surface.....? |
ok... a friend of mine saw a picture of a woman in a very large pool in a big fancy dress (underwater caused the dress to fan out to give a very nice effect)... but the woman was under water so you could not see the surface of the edges of the pool..... now that she saw that... she wants me to take pics of her like that... i told her i would if i could...i cant find a underwater case for my camera though... (nikon n55 / d50)... so if you know of a maker that would help... or another way to do the shot... i thought about from above the you would get waves in it... of the tip of the lens in the water... but thats a bit to riskey for my style... or if i shot from the outside of a dunk tank... any ideas and tips would be wondrful... or if you think its impossible... let me know... thanks Try the glass bottom boat technique. Build a box with four sides and a glass bottom. The size doesn't matter much so long as you have room to work but I think larger is better. Make the joints waterproof and float it on the surface of the water. You can then put your camera in it against the glass bottom to take your pictures. If necessary, you can cover your head and the camera with a dark towel to keep sky light from reflecting off the glass. Google. hhmm....is it a digital camera? You could try to put clear wrap...cellophane or whatever, over the lense and put it in the water. The reason I ask if it is a digital camera is if it IS, then you could instantly see if it worked, and you could even do a test run before she gets in the water. You could also try putting it in a baggie....a REALLY REALLY good watertight baggie lol good luck, I hope you dont ruin your camera It's near impossible to phot things down through the water from the air, because of light reflection. You must have crystal clear water and just the right lighting. Its much easier to buy a water camera or jury rig an airtight camera. There are some cheap waterproof throw away cameras you could try. As far as taking a picture from above you could try using a polorizing filter on the lens of your camera. This might help knock out the reflections on the surface of the water letting you look through it. Fuji makes a great throw away underwater camera or check your local camera store or photography mag there is an inexpensive air tight bag with an optical window built in i've always been thinking about just putting a camera in an airtight bag (like a gallon size ziploc) and just plunging it under and snapping a quick picture. i think it might work for a few shots, but be careful. if your camera breaks, don't blame it on me. |
