How does one get a photography exhibit? |
I want to to have my photography exhibited, does anyone know what it takes to get to this point in having their work shown and sold? The tips of the trade? First one takes pictures LOL ... You can get an art agent or do your own promotion: the usual way is to contact interesting galleries that would be most likely to show your photos--so you have to visit galleries or surf them. Then you submit a few pics following their guidlines, which they usually post. you'll need the pictures stats: format size, camera model etc ... so be pepared especially if you walk in, to say something like I used a such and such lense with my such and such camera, and be prepared to answer q's about your pics Who developed it--what type of paper. A professional knows all of these things off the top of thier head when submitting photos. They often want a resume of where you've shown your work before--don't let that scare you ... Just be prepared with a good and interesting answer. You might open up a conversation if your answer is interesting enough. I only submitted one photo but it was rejected: My little story was as follows ... I gained 30 pounds while taking this picture becase I couldn't stop eating my own artwork. Now ... That will only make sense to you when I tell you that the pciture was of a 4'x4.5' candy castle built from all types and colors of M and M candies. it got a laugh but my nice pic wasn't accepted. my main purpose to drop into the gallery was casual ... I just happened by and liked some fo the paintings. They were exibiting a show called Art inspired by good food and wine, next ... so I took the opportunity to try and market a pic i took 15 years ago. So you see ... it just sort of flows, or in my case melts. BUT I DID LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN FOR PERHAPS SHOWING OTHER ART LATER ... by using the joke about eating my own artwork, becase the show was all about food: Good Luck!
