Starting to get into photography? |
should i buy photoshop? any tips or knowledge or experiences with photography? IMO you should take a photography class at your high school or community college. Learn about light and shutter speeds and f-stops and ISO and composition. Learn all that well enough and you'll seldom need Photoshop - you'll know how to "get it right" in the camera. Read and study your camera's Owner's Manual. Read and study it again. Go to google or amazon or ebay and search for the Magic Lantern Guides. If there is one for your camera, buy it. Practice your photography as often as possible. Experiment. Learn to use Manual Mode if your camera has that option. Even a one day course on the basics will give such a start to becoming better. I have photoshop elements 3.0. I dont use it but rarely, and then mostly to change the image size or crop something to exactly what I want. Photoshop has a very sharp learning curve and can be difficult to do anything with. I am usually pretty computer savvy, but photoshop is no picnic. Yeah you can do some pretty cool stuff but I dont have the time for that myself (2 kids with one on the way). Also, photoshop wont turn a bad picture into a good one. One thing I would suggest downloading is Picasa. Its free! And is pretty intuative. It can't put your head on someone elses body but its got some cool efects none the less. http://picasa.google.com/index.html... look up rule of thirds, it helps a great deal. Start with either a short coarse or a magazine for beginners, Photoshop is very expensive, you can download Gimp from the Internet for free it is similar, I would stay away from photoshop for the time being. The most important thing at any level of photography is getting an image in the first place. Learn the basics of photography, i.e., composition, exposure, lighting, etc. Once you are comfortable with how to take a picture, then you can learn who to manipulate. Most digital cameras come with the necessary software so you can transfer and print your images. Work with this first. But remember, a great photograph is made in the camera, not in a computer. |
