Tips On Lighting for Photography?

Has anyone got any tips on lighting?
To avoid color casts, when using macro, etc.
I use a Pentax Optio S6

Since you are using a digital camera you only have to match your cameras light source setting to the lighting you are using, so no need to worry about color casts when shooting macro indoors or out. (Indoors choose incandescent, outdoors in the shade choose shade, etc.)

When shooting macro, be sure your camera does not cast a shadow if you are shooting with external lighting or in the sun.

That should do it.
Bounce flash will give you better lighting. I think the S6 is a point and shoot, right? With the built in flash?
Maybe try not using the flash, use side lighting. I don't think you can sync an external flash (easily) with that camera, so try constant on lighting. For a cheap way to do this I recommend:
Buy sheets of foam core white board. You can tape 2 together to make a "T" that will stand up, if you desire.
Buy clamp lights, they have a roughly 9" reflector and a clamp. They're cheap.
Buy bulbs to match your shooting area. Fluorescent if fluorescent, tungsten (standard bulbs) if tungsten.
Now aim the lights at your foam board and reflect it to your subject. This will diffuse the light, but still create some direction so you can have artistic lighting. Better if you can have the light a foot or two away from the foam board, but clamp is to the board if there are no other options.

For macro, I've done some work using a cheap LED penlight. Use a tripod for your camera if you can. You will have to color balance for the LED, it's typically not very white.
