What are some great photography techniques, tips and tricks?

Lighting...Angles...Shadows...... look

Perfect Picture

Ok first off, a flash does not get rid of shadows. Its purpose is to light your subject properly at the correct exposure. You can still shoot into the sun without a flash, if its turning out dark it means you metered on the sun and not your subject. Sometimes people want there subject to be dark and not lit to create a silhouette effect. Lens filters are nice to use but I would recommend not using them and doing post editing in Photoshop. If you want different looks, try not to shoot at eye level with your subject so much as a lot of photographer tend to do. Go low, go high, turn your camera at an angle etc. If you have any studio strobes, play around with the lighting, try using 1 light, 2 or 3 lights and see the different outcomes you get. If you want more of a Rembrandt look try using 1 studio strobe or window light coming from one side. Hope this helps.
Use your fill flash almost all the time. It stops shadows. Don't shot into the sun without it.
An old trick that I use if I don't have a filter, is to breathe on the lens and let it clear a little then take the shot. Makes a great fog look on some nature shots.
shoot from a low angle looking up to make the model appear taller.

shoot from a slight angle looking down, or have the model look up at you to make their eyes look bigger

if ceilings are low, bounce the flash off the ceiling while useing a index card rubberbanded to the flash's back to bounce some light foward

use rear curtan sync at dusk

keep shootin
Study your subject/muse, and also study its shadows. Move around a bit to get the right angle. For an example: a (eating) bowl. You can take a picture of just the bowl (straight on), or move around to show what is in the bowl or what light you are getting to cause shadows behind the bowl and so on...
adobe photoshop is a great way to edit bad photos be sure to use flash all the time and shoot where the sunshine is mostly seen to make shots clearer and if you dont have a filter breathe on you lens a little bit to make a nice fog effect when in nature keep up the good work! keep shootin!
