Any ideas for a photography magazine? I was looking into getting Popular Photography, but I'm not sure.?

I wanted to get the subscription for my boyfriend who just recently started getting into photography. I need to find the best magazine for someone who is just getting into it. Thanks:)

Pop Photo is just an equipment catalogue.

Shutterbug is OK but it's full of junk too.

Real photographers (not equipment collectors) buy:

http://www.photolife.com/
http://www.photoed.ca/
https://www.neodata.com/hfmus/apht/ (American Photo)

You also can't go wrong with
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/

HTH
V2K1

They are huge ad orgies anymore.

Pop Photo is fine, I prefer Shutterbug. The articles tend to be a little more indepth. Though I do miss their large sized magazine!

I have subscribed to Shutterbug for years. Its always informative and showcases new products.

as a photographer i think you would be better spending the money on a good pice of kit. a lens or trypod and just let him buy the best mag of the month to suit him
Hope this helps

I like Outdoor Photographer, RangeFinder, AfterCapture and Digital Photo Pro.

Although I will agree that anymore, they are just filled with ads and are pretty skimpy on content. They are more an more becoming like fashion magazines.

I actually spend most of my time going through the internet for my information.

I have a subscription to Outdoor Photographer....but it really depends on what kind of photography he likes. Portraits, Still Life, Wild Life, Landscape Sports etc.
Popular Photography may be a safe bet or better yet, apply the $$$ toward a class for him.

Popular Photography and shutterbug are composed of 70% a catalog and 20% photography and 10% Eco friendly recycled paper

The ads even take up one side of the article your trying to read and then theres LITERALY 70+pages of ads in between parts of the things he'd be interested in. No joke.

Those are the only two photography magazines I've purchased.
Try some different ones or you can stick with shutterbug. I prefer them over Popphoto.
