Hello everyone, I am almost 19 and have recently graduated from high school. I had decided to put off the idea of college or extra school at the moment. Anyways I recently got a crappy job and it hit me really bad, If I cant do what I enjoy doing in life then everyday will not live up to its potential. Now I love making short films, filming and editing video and I was thinking about possibly opening up my own media business once I had saved up some money to get a little better equipment. I also love photography and graphic design and I am pretty good at photoshop. I'm also not too bad in web design. I really need a job where it will allow me to be creative. Do any of you have any advice about maybe starting my own business? I had basically sort of outlined the type of services I could bring.
(video) Film weddings/ events/ commercials/ shorts/ documentary's/ music videos/ indie films/ news/ web video

(web) anything
(design) anything Might be a good idea to work under someone in that type of business first so you get an idea of what to do. If you do a wedding and the wedding couple doesnt like your work or think you did a bad job, they could sue you.
If you are going to do something in film/documentary/commercials you definately need to work for someone first to build up your resume. Even if you have to work for free to get the experience, do it. Nobody wants to hire a beginner when they are doing something in media, so think about that first. Also think about going to a film school like the acadamy of art in San Franscisco, where you can make tons of contacts with the other students and you will learn first hand on how films are made and things that need to be done when making films or commercials or whatever. I guarentee, there are about a million things you need to know that you havent even thought about yet.
Good luck. |
