Anyone had photos done at olan mills photography? |
ive won a runners up prize in the york store in mothercare, its a hrs shoot of my daughter and 1 small portrait, just wondering if it would be expesive to buy more and if the photos are any good? cheers did anyone read the question? i want to buy more photos but wanted to know how much they cost, and i kinda figured they would be trying to sell me more pics.......its there job, sweetie sweetie, this is a sales con job. everyone wins, everyone gets "the prize." When you get there to see the "prize" and pick it up, be prepared to see about 30 photos in all sizes from sheets of stickers, to 20 wallet sizes, to 4 8x10's , a couple of 11x14's and probably a huge one too - that they will try their damndest to sell you and will also do everything in their power tomake you feel guilty for not buying them.... be resolved before you go how much money you will spend to get your "free prize." You have to ask yourself before y ou go to pick up the "prize" - how strong am I against a supersales person who is out to get my money and make themselves a big commission (and a fool out of you.) Can I just insist politely that I only want my "prize" and walk out the door no matter how rude or insistent they are, or do I want to actually spend $20, 40, $100 or $500 on the same photo (and bore all your relatives and friends to death by sending them one.) If you are ready to spend some money on this, decide ahead of time and put that much money in your pocket. When the sales person starts in on you, pull it out and keep repeating that this is all you have and are willing to spend and what can youget for that much...don't let yourself be pressured into charging a bunch of money on a credit card (say you don't have one.) Stick to your guns... Enjoy the occasion if you decide to go, but I believe from what I was once told that it is expensive to buy more photos. The idea of the competition is probably a sales gimmick. Once they've got you there and you've seen the lovely small portrait of your daughter, you'll be talked into buying further photos. You'll have to be strong and resist their powers of persuasion! Olan Mills used to be a classy studio. When we had our family photo done in 1964 they used gold leaf stamping and a very high standard of paper and processing. hark unto the dragonlady, she speaks the truth. I totally agree with SuzanneM! |
